This month is shaping up to be a very hectic and exciting one. I have two main events occurring within a few weeks of each other. The first is my second year of attendance at Art!Vancouver. This is a premier international art show featuring artists from every corner of the world. The show will run from May 26th to May 30th.

Last year, I met artists’ from France, the Netherlands, Singapore, Japan and even Africa! The styles were astounding and prolific. The energy was palpable. Nothing invigorates artists’ as much as obtaining new and inspiring ideas. Another benefit of attending Art!Vancouver were the art topics presented by a variety of companies and artists. How to manage your artistic time and studio, how to recreate certain art techniques as well as artist demonstrations were all part of the festivities.

Last year there was a First Nations dancer who enchanted everyone with her “Bear Dance”. It was captivating! She will be attending this year as well. This year, Art!Vancouver is offering each of us the opportunity to have “our 15 minutes of fame” à la Warhol! During this time, we will discuss our artistic process as well as the materials we use to create our “perfect” paintings.

Grand Opening

The second event in my life is the “Grand Opening” of my gallery on June, 10th and 11th on my return from Art!Vancouver. For the time being, I’ve put my older, colorful abstracts on my walls to entertain the public that has been peering through my windows. How do I know? I have hand and face prints on my windows that I clean daily!

There is an amazing array of things to plan for a gallery opening. Invitations, newspaper ads, writing and proofing the ads, entertainment to organize, decorations, catering, cleaning up, coffee, hanging the new paintings, etc… so I will be quite the busy little doer.

The “Grand Opening” will feature some of my newer works of art from specific B.C. petroglyph sites such as Seton Creek and Towdystan. New paintings from South African sites as well as the U.S. Southwest will also make their debut. If you are in town, the show will begin on Friday, June 10th from 7 to 9 pm. and on Saturday, June 11th, from 1 to 4 pm. See y’all there!
